The City
of Scobey is the largest city and County Seat in Daniels County with a
population of 1082 in an area consisting of one square mile. We are a small town with large town facilities, a progressive mind, and an awesome sense of
community. Scobey, referred to as "The Center of the Universe" is known by many
because, outside of wheat, our largest export has been people. However, we would
like people to become our largest import.Scobey is home to a newly expanded
and renovated school complex which offers two gymnasiums, a walking/running
track, and weight room facilities; a newly renovated hospital and nursing home
including a physical therapy center with hydrotherapy pool; a full service
airport; an authentic
historic town with 35 restored buildings; a 9-hole golf course and clubhouse;
municipal pools and ball parks; a trapshooting club; a locally owned radio station and weekly
newspaper; a movie theater; two grocery stores; a large telephone cooperative; several other retail businesses,
professional offices, and industrial complexes; and other services too numerous
to mention.
Scobey is around 2400 feet above sea level with a climate
consisting of four
distinct seasons. Summer temperatures normally range between 83 and 48 degrees
Fahrenheit averaging 66 degrees. Winter temperatures range between 24 above and 3
degrees below zero Fahrenheit with an annual average snowfall of 18.7 inches.
Annual precipitation average is 13.23 inches.
Located just fourteen miles south of the Canadian Border, we are within a two
1/2 hour drive to Regina, Saskatchewan, the provincial capitol. Regina is a
large metropolitan area with a culturally diverse population offering many
amenities such as a professional football team, a symphony, science center,
museums, and shopping.
Incorporated in 1914 and classified as a Third Class City, the City is a
Mayor/Council form of government. City Services include water, sewer, and
garbage services to the residents and businesses of Scobey. There are more than
18 miles of streets and alleys and 18 miles of combined water and sewer lines in
the City limits. The City also offers the public a 2+ acre park in the heart of
the City including a large pool and wading pool for toddlers and an extensive
baseball complex on the north side of town.
City Hall, located at 708 First Avenue West, is open from 8:00 am to 11:00 am
